Anemia in Pregnant Women

During pregnancy, a healthy woman's body produces more blood in order to support the growth of the baby. However, when a mother is not getting enough iron or certain other nutrients, and is anemic, her body might not be able to produce enough amount of red blood cells it needs to be able to support her baby. It's normal to have mild Anemia when a mother is pregnant, but she may develop more severe Anemia because of low iron or vitamin levels.
There are mainly 3 types of Anemia in Pregnant women due to three main reasons commonly, the deficiency of Iron, Vitamin B12 or Folic Acid. Usually all Pregnant Women are at risk of suffering through Anemia; hence it is very necessary to take extra care and precaution during pregnancy

Severe or unchecked Anemia in Pregnant women leads to all kinds of medical complications including Preterm or low-birth-weight baby. The baby can also develop anemia and some developmental delays as a result or he/she may suffer from serious spine and brain (neural tube defects) defects. The anemic mother also suffers from Postpartum depression or may need a Blood transfusion in case she loses a significant amount of blood during pregnancy.
